Welcome to the Austin Free Skool!
Austin Free Skool is an organization built on a simple idea: education is a right, not a privilege. We are a group of volunteers with a variety of interests and experiences who want to help people teach. Our aim is to sponsor collaborative, fun, and - most importantly - educational activities to strengthen the community and our collective understanding of the world.
We meet every Sunday at 5:00 pm at Tom's Tabooley on Guadalupe. Come talk with us!
How do I take a class?
View our Calendar or our Current Classes to see upcoming Free Skool events as well as other educational activities in the community. Classes are free but some require materials depending on the subject. Use the contact information to RSVP and start learning.
How do I teach a class?
We ask that prospective teachers attend a meeting so that we can learn about each other and coordinate with the other teachers. If you want to become a voting member, come to an additional meeting so we can vote on you.
Once a teacher, we will help you market your class as many ways as possible (our calendar, Skillshare, Hour School, etc). Just fill out a class proposal form and come meet with us!
What is the difference between a teacher and a member?
We understand that people are busy and may want to teach without being saddled with organizational duties. Members deal with things like printing calendars, finding spaces, acquiring resources, etc. If you want to teach, then we want to do everything we can to provide support for you - but if you want to take a more active role in the organization, that's even better.
